Engine Crank Position Sensor ?️

This sensor is a key input for the ECU to control spark timing and fuel injection. It β€œreads” the crankshaft rotation and tells the engine computer exactly where the pistons are in their cycle. Without this signal, the engine cannot synchronize ignition and injection correctly, so performance and reliability drop fast.

How It Works βš™οΈ

Mounted near the crankshaft trigger wheel, it detects passing teeth/gaps and converts them into an electrical pulse. The ECU uses these pulses to calculate RPM and crank position in real time, adjusting ignition advance, injector pulse, and misfire detection.

Why You Need a Healthy Sensor βœ…

Accurate crank data means smooth starting, stable idle, strong acceleration, and better fuel economy. It also helps prevent backfire and protects the catalytic converter from unburnt fuel.

Symptoms If It Fails ?

  • Hard start or no start
  • Engine stalling when hot
  • Rough idle, hesitation, loss of power
  • Check engine light, erratic RPM signal
