Engine Coolant Pump Inlet Tube β€” OEM Ref. MD324680

Why this part is needed

This inlet tube guides coolant from the lower radiator hose into the water pump. Without a healthy tube, the pump cannot get a steady flow, and the engine cooling loop becomes unstable. A solid, leak-free tube keeps temperature under control, protects the head gasket, and extends pump and hose life .

How it works

The tube mounts to the pump housing and seals with an O-ring. As the pump spins, it draws coolant through this pipe, feeding the block and heads. Correct internal diameter and smooth bends prevent cavitation and flow loss. Corrosion-resistant construction helps resist rust and pitting from coolant and road salts.

What happens if it fails

Cracks, rust holes, or a hardened O-ring cause leaks, air ingestion, and overheating. Symptoms include sweet smell, coolant drops on the ground, low heater output, rising temp gauge, and pump noise. Continued driving can warp the head, damage the thermostat, and contaminate belts ⚠️.

Tech notes for installation

  • Always replace the O-ring and lubricate with coolant.
  • Clean mating surfaces; align fully before tightening.
  • Use proper clamp torque; bleed the cooling system.
  • Refill with the correct spec coolant mix.
