Throttle Body Water Return Hose (Coolant Return Line)
This coolant return hose is a small but critical line that routes warm engine coolant back from the throttle body area into the cooling system. Many Mitsubishi engines use coolant flow around the throttle body to stabilize temperature, reduce icing in cold weather, and help maintain smooth idle and throttle response.
Why this hose is needed
It completes the coolant loop at the throttle body, keeping flow steady and preventing air pockets. The hose must handle heat, vibration, and coolant chemicals while staying flexible and sealed.
How it works
Coolant circulates through the throttle body passages and returns through this hose to the engineβs coolant circuit. The rubber compound and reinforced structure are designed to resist swelling and cracking under pressure and temperature cycles.
What happens if it breaks β οΈ
A split or hardened hose can leak coolant, causing low coolant level, overheating, poor heater performance, and possible steam near the intake. In severe cases, coolant loss may lead to engine damage. Even a small seep can introduce air and create unstable temperature control.
