Crankshaft Drive Pulley / Harmonic Balancer βοΈ
This front pulley mounts on the crank nose and spins the belts that power the alternator, A/C, power steering, and often the water pump. Its bonded rubber damper also absorbs crank vibration to protect bearings, timing parts, and the block. Built to OE geometry and balance, it restores smooth idle, clean belt tracking, and stable charging. Ref: MD306158.
Why you need it
Worn rubber, cracked hub, or a bent outer ring causes belt slip, battery light, weak cooling, and harsh engine shake. Replacing it prevents costly damage and keeps accessories working.
How it works
A steel hub keys to the crank. An inertia ring is bonded by rubber to cancel torsional pulses. Pulley grooves drive V/serpentine belts with correct alignment and balance.
If it fails
Symptoms: wobble, squeal, oil seal leaks, overheating, heavy steering, or outer ring walk-off. In severe cases, you can lose belt drive and harm the crankshaft nose.
Tech tips
Clean keyway, seat fully, torque to spec, fit new belts, keep oil off rubber.
