Crankshaft Position Sensor β OEM ref. MD303643 ?
This sensor is a core timing input for Mitsubishi engines. It tells the ECU the exact position and speed of the crankshaft so ignition spark and fuel injection happen at the right moment. A healthy sensor means fast starts, smooth idle, strong pull, and clean emissions.
Why you need it βοΈ
Modern engine management depends on precise crank data. With this signal, the ECU controls coil dwell, injector pulse, and knock strategy. It keeps your SUV reliable on-road and off-road, protects the catalytic converter, and saves fuel.
How it works ?
Mounted by the crank pulley or flywheel, the magnetic/Hall pickup reads teeth on a reluctor wheel. Each passing tooth creates a waveform. The ECU counts the gaps to find TDC, calculates RPM, and syncs with the cam sensor for sequential injection.
If the sensor is bad β οΈ
Expect hard start or no start, sudden stall when hot, misfire, rough idle, weak acceleration, poor economy, and the MIL on (often code P0335). The tach may drop to zero, and the ECU can enter limp mode.
Tech notes β
Set the air gap to spec, keep the connector clean, route the harness away from heat, and clear codes after install. Check the reluctor for damage or rust.
