Why this part is needed οΈ
This small but critical housing controls camshaft endplay inside the cylinder head. It keeps the cam centered, holds the oil film on the thrust face, and locks valve timing in the sweet spot. With proper endplay, timing belt/chain runs true, seals last longer, and the engine stays quiet and smooth. Itβs essential for long cam and head life.
How it works
The housing forms a precision thrust surface that the camshaft presses against during forward/back movement. Engine oil lubricates this face, preventing metal-to-metal contact. By limiting axial travel, it stabilizes cam lobes, followers, and timing components. The result is clean valve events and reliable sensor readings.
What happens if itβs worn or broken
Endplay grows, causing rattle at idle, ticking on warm start, and wandering timing. You may see rough idle, loss of power, cam/crank correlation codes, or premature oil seal leaks. In severe cases the belt/chain can misalign, jump a tooth, and bend valves. Ignoring it accelerates cam and head thrust-face wear.

Measure cam endplay during service; lube the thrust face on install; align oil feed and torque caps to spec. Replace if scoring, cracks, or excessive clearance are present.
