Engine Cylinder Sleeve (Liner) ?οΈ
This precision metal liner fits inside the engine block to create a smooth, round cylinder wall for the piston to run on. Itβs needed when the original bore is worn, scratched, overheated, or rebuilt after damage. A good sleeve restores correct compression, reduces oil burning, and helps the engine keep stable temperature and power.
How It Works βοΈ
The liner becomes the working surface for piston rings. It supports the oil film, keeps ring sealing tight, and transfers heat from combustion into the block and cooling system. When installed correctly, it holds exact clearance so the piston moves freely without slap, while maintaining strong sealing under load.
If the Sleeve Fails ?
A cracked, loose, or heavily scored sleeve can cause low compression, hard starting, blow-by, blue smoke, coolant/oil mixing, overheating, and rapid piston/ring wear. In severe cases it can lead to piston seizure or complete engine rebuild.
