Intercooler Air Thermal Switch for Turbocharged Mitsubishi
Why you need it ⚙️
This small sensor-switch controls the electric fan on the intercooler. When charge air gets hot, it triggers the fan to cool the intercooler core. Cooler air is denser, giving stronger torque, safer exhaust temps, better fuel economy, and longer turbo life. It’s essential for hard towing, off-road climbs, and hot climates.
How it works
Threaded into the shroud or piping, the thermal switch monitors intake air around the intercooler. At a set temperature it closes the circuit, powering the fan through a relay. When temps drop, it opens the circuit to stop the fan. The result is stable intake temps and consistent boost performance.
If it fails
Stuck open: fan never runs, intercooler heat-soaks, power drops, more smoke, higher EGT, possible ECU protection mode, and faster turbo wear. Stuck closed: fan runs constantly, increased noise, premature fan wear, and battery/alternator load. Intermittent faults cause surging and unstable performance.
Tech notes
Direct-fit, OE-style connector. Replace crush washer/O-ring if equipped, clean threads, and test with a multimeter. Always verify fan relay and wiring during installation.
