Rear Crankshaft Oil Seal Housing
This engine sealing case is fitted at the rear of the crankshaft to hold the oil seal in perfect alignment. Itβs needed to keep engine oil inside the crankcase while the crankshaft spins at high RPM. When the housing is true and tight, the seal lip runs on the crank surface evenly, preventing leaks and keeping clutch/torque converter areas clean β .

The case bolts to the engine block and centers the rear oil seal. It provides a rigid seat so the seal can maintain steady contact with the crankshaft. What Happens If Itβs Damaged
If the case is cracked, warped, or corroded, the seal can sit crooked and leak. Expect oil dripping between engine and gearbox, burning-oil smell, clutch slip on manuals, contaminated flexplate area on automatics, and gradual oil loss that can lead to low oil pressure and engine wear.
