Steering Tie Rod Ball Stud Seat
This precision seat supports the spherical pin inside the tie rod end. It keeps the steering linkage tight, smooth, and quiet, so your wheels track straight and respond instantly to your inputs .
Why you need it ✅
Without a healthy seat, the joint loosens, alignment drifts, and tires scrub. This small part maintains preload on the ball, locking in toe settings and protecting the rack and knuckle from shock and vibration.
How it works ️
A molded polymer/PTFE cup cradles the ball stud. Grease fills the cavity, the seat spreads load, reduces friction, and seals out grit. Together with a spring and cap, it sets the correct tension, preventing play and clicks during steering travel.
If it’s worn or broken ⚠️
Expect clunks over bumps, wandering on highways, shimmy in the wheel, uneven tire wear, and poor return-to-center. In severe cases the joint can separate, causing sudden loss of steering control—do not ignore noise or slack.
Fitment & technician tips
Replace in pairs with new boot and grease. Torque to spec, then perform a full alignment. Inspect rack ends and knuckle tapers. Any torn boot or rust pitting means the seat has been compromised—renew immediately.
