How it works ⚙️
A spring-loaded primary lip rides on the machined axle collar, holding a thin oil film that seals at all speeds. A secondary dust lip adds extra defense against splash. Together they retain grease, exclude contaminants, and reduce wear. The anti-corrosion shell ensures the seal seats squarely and stays put.
What happens if it fails ⚠️
Typical signs are grease on the back of the wheel, wet backing plate, humming or growling that rises with speed, wheel play, and sometimes an ABS warning due to contamination. Continued driving can wash out grease, overheat and pit bearings, seize the hub, or contaminate brake pads and rotors, increasing stopping distance.
Tech tip
