Parking Brake Strut Link MB858543 for Mitsubishi 4x4

This small but vital link sits inside the rear drum assembly. It transfers force from the handbrake lever and cable to the brake shoes, locking the wheels when parked. Built from hardened steel with corrosion protection, it keeps the shoes aligned and spreads load evenly for a strong, stable hold on inclines.

Why you need it

A healthy strut link gives short lever travel, firm parking hold, and even shoe wear. It prevents dragging and helps pass safety inspections. It is key for heavy SUVs and vans that tow or carry loads.

How it works

Pull the lever β†’ cable pulls actuator β†’ the strut bar pushes the opposite shoe via the spreader/adjuster. The rigid bar maintains the correct shoe distance and ensures both shoes expand together for reliable holding power.

When it fails ⚠️

Signs: long lever travel, weak holding on slopes, uneven shoe wear, rattling in drums, hot wheel from dragging, roll-away risk. A bent or corroded bar can jam or lose stroke, making adjustment impossible.

Tech tips βœ…

Replace in axle pairs, clean contact pads, apply a thin high-temp brake grease on touch points (not on linings), inspect return springs and adjuster while inside the drum.
