Upper Radiator Coolant Hose for Mitsubishi
This upper coolant hose connects the top of the radiator to the engine cooling outlet. It is needed to move hot coolant away from the engine so the radiator can remove heat οΈ. When the cooling system is under pressure and temperature changes fast, this hose must stay flexible, sealed, and crack-free.
How It Works
As the water pump circulates coolant, the hose carries the hottest coolant to the radiator. Its reinforced rubber walls handle heat, vibration, and pressure pulses. Good clamps and a clean fitting surface help it seal tight and prevent air from entering the system.
Why Replacing It Matters
An aging hose can swell, soften, or split near the ends. If it fails, coolant can leak fast, causing overheating, steam from the engine bay, weak cabin heater, and possible engine damage like a warped head or blown gasket β οΈ. Even small cracks can lead to slow coolant loss and corrosion inside the cooling system.
Signs of a Bad Hose
- Coolant smell or wetness around the top radiator area
- Bulges, hard spots, or surface cracks
- Overheating in traffic or under load
