Outer Tie Rod Socket Kit β Steering Precision Replacement
Why this part is needed
This steering link keeps your front wheels pointed exactly where you aim. It holds the toe angle, transmits your input from the rack to the knuckle, and stabilizes handling. A fresh unit restores tight steering, straight-line tracking, and even tire wear. Itβs a small part with a big effect on safety and comfort.
How it works
The assembly uses a threaded shank to connect to the inner tie rod, and a tapered stud with a ball-and-socket to seat in the steering knuckle. The socket swivels smoothly while carrying load, protected by a grease-filled boot. Turning the adjuster changes length to set toe during alignment. A castle nut and cotter pin lock the stud in place.
What happens if it fails β οΈ
Wear creates play and looseness: clunks over bumps, shimmy, vague steering, off-center wheel, and feathered tire edges. Excessive play can upset ABS/ESC logic. In severe cases the stud can separate, causing sudden loss of directional control. Replace at the first signs of knock, torn boot, rust dust, or uneven tread.
Pro install notes β
Match thread count/length to the old part, torque to spec, use a new cotter pin, and finish with a four-wheel alignment for correct toe. Recheck fasteners after a short road test.
