Steering Column Combination Switch — OE‑grade Replacement ?
Why this part is needed ?
This combo switch is the driver’s main control for turn signals, headlamp high/low beam, wipers, and washer. In rough use or with age, internal contacts wear and grease dries out. Replacing the unit restores crisp stalk feel and reliable lighting and wiper control, boosting safety and keeping your SUV inspection‑ready.
How it works
The stalks move cams across spring‑loaded copper contacts. Each detent closes a circuit that feeds the relay/BCM for indicators, beams, intermittent wipe, and washer. Low‑resistance tracks and plated contacts keep signals clean; molded housings guide movement and return springs center the stalk after a turn.
What happens if it’s broken ⚠️
- Indicators don’t latch or self‑cancel
- High/low beam flicker or won’t switch
- Wipers intermittent, dead, or stuck on
- Blown fuses, hot smell, or battery drain from stuck circuits
- Reduced night/rain visibility and possible road‑worthiness fail
Installation notes ✅
- Disconnect battery; remove column shrouds
- Unplug harness; undo screws/clips; swap unit
- Do not rotate the clock spring; test all functions before reassembly
- Usually no coding required; use correct Torx drivers
