This main bearing set sits between the crankshaft journals and the engine block, creating a precise low-friction surface so the crankshaft can spin freely under heavy load. It is needed whenever bearings show wear, after an oil starvation event, during an engine rebuild, or when crankshaft clearance is out of spec.

Each bearing shell is made with layered metal that supports high pressure while holding a thin oil film. That oil film is the real βcushionβ that prevents metal-to-metal contact, keeps heat under control, and maintains stable oil pressure.
If the Bearing Set Fails
