Engine Oil Separator (Crankcase Ventilation) π οΈ
This component is a key part of the crankcase ventilation system on modern Mercedes V8 engines. Its job is to split (separate) oil mist from blow-by gases before those gases are routed back into the intake. By removing oil droplets, it helps keep the intake tract cleaner, protects turbo/air-path parts, and supports stable combustion and emissions control.
Why this part is needed β
Every engine creates crankcase pressure. Without proper separation, oily vapors get pulled into the intake, causing deposits, smoky exhaust under load, and higher oil consumption. This separator keeps oil where it belongs: in the engine.
How it works βοΈ
Inside the housing, gases are forced through chambers that slow and swirl the flow. Oil droplets condense and drain back to the sump, while cleaned vapors continue through the PCV path. This maintains correct crankcase pressure and reduces oil carryover.
