Why it’s needed
Engine load and weather change every minute. The valve balances high-side pressure with evaporator outlet temperature to deliver the right flow at all times. That protects components, stabilizes cabin comfort, and helps fuel economy.
How it works
Inside are a needle/seat, spring, diaphragm, and a thermostatic power element. The sensing bulb feels outlet line temperature; bulb pressure opens the needle, while spring and low-side pressure close it. Calibrated ports keep superheat steady, preventing flood-back and ensuring only vapor returns to the compressor. Corrosion-resistant body and OE dimensions mean a quick, leak-free fit.
If it fails
Stuck closed: weak cooling, iced core, low suction. Stuck open: warm air, high suction, liquid slugging, noisy cycling, and possible compressor damage ⚠️. You may see frost at the inlet or hear hissing. During replacement, renew O‑rings, vacuum the system, and install a fresh drier .
