AC Expansion Valve for Hyundai & Kia
This air conditioning metering valve is a small but critical part that keeps your cabin cooling stable in traffic and on highways. It is needed to control how much refrigerant enters the evaporator, so the system can drop temperature fast without freezing up.
How it works
The valve creates a pressure drop between the high side and low side of the AC system. It โmeasuresโ heat load and regulates refrigerant flow into the evaporator core. When demand rises (hot cabin), it feeds more; when demand falls, it reduces flow. This balance protects the compressor and keeps vent temperature consistent โ๏ธ
Signs itโs failing
What happens if itโs broken
- Weak or warm air, especially at idle
- Evaporator icing, then airflow drops
- High/low pressure readings out of range
- Compressor noise or cycling too often
- Poor fuel economy from overworking AC
A stuck-open valve can flood the evaporator and return liquid to the compressor (damage risk). A stuck-closed valve starves the evaporator, causing poor cooling and higher pressures. Replacing it restores proper refrigerant control and helps the AC last longer โ
