AC Refrigerant Pressure Sensor Assembly βοΈ
Why this part is needed
This sensor is a key safety and control component in the air conditioning system. It constantly checks refrigerant pressure so the vehicle can keep cabin cooling stable and protect expensive parts from overload.
How it works
Mounted on the AC line, it converts pressure into an electrical signal sent to the ECU/AC amplifier. The system then adjusts compressor cycling (or variable compressor control), commands radiator fans, and can shut the compressor off if pressure is too low or too high. This keeps cooling efficient and prevents damage during hot weather or low-charge conditions.
What happens if itβs broken
A failed sensor can cause no cold air, intermittent cooling, or the compressor not engaging at all. In some cases it may falsely report high pressure, forcing the fans to run constantly, or it may allow incorrect operation that risks compressor wear, hose leaks, and poor fuel economy. Warning lights and AC fault codes may appear β οΈ.
