Engine Crankshaft Speed & Position Sensor

This sensor is a key input for the ECU so the engine can start fast, idle smooth, and deliver clean power βš™οΈ. It is needed to tell the computer the exact crankshaft position and engine speed (RPM), so fuel injection and ignition timing happen at the right moment.

How It Works

The unit reads a rotating trigger wheel on the crankshaft. As the teeth pass the sensor tip, it creates a signal the ECU converts into RPM and position data. With this, the ECU controls spark timing, injector pulse, and misfire detection.

When the Sensor Fails

A weak or dead sensor can cause no-start, sudden stalling, long cranking, rough running, hesitation, poor fuel economy, and a check engine light πŸš—. In many cases the ECU may cut fuel/spark for safety, leaving the car stranded.
