Why this part is needed
This bearing supports the differential case so the ring and pinion mesh perfectly. In tough use—towing, loads, or off‑road—it keeps the rear axle quiet, cool, and efficient. A fresh, high-precision bearing restores smooth drive, reduces gear noise, and protects expensive gears and seals.
How it works
It is a tapered roller unit that sits in the axle housing and centers the differential case. With correct preload and shims, it holds the gear set at the right depth and backlash. Bathed in gear oil, the hardened rollers and races carry heavy torque while minimizing friction and heat. That’s how your 4x4 delivers power to the wheels without vibration.
What happens if it’s broken
Signs include humming or growl at 40–80 km/h, whine on acceleration or coast, play in the pinion/ring gear, hot diff oil, and metal glitter at service.
