Transfer case drive sprocket support bearing βοΈ
This precision bearing supports the transfer drive sprocket inside the transfer case of 4x4/AWD trucks. It holds the sprocket shaft on-center, keeps the chain in line, and delivers smooth, quiet torque to the front axle. Built for high radial load, heat, and offβroad dust, it protects the case from wear during daily use and hard trails.
Why you need it
It reduces friction, controls backlash, and stabilizes the sprocket under load. With a healthy bearing, power flow stays efficient, noise is low, and the chain lasts longer.
How it works
A deepβgroove ball bearing sits in the case bore. The outer race locks into the housing; the inner race supports the sprocket/shaft. Hardened balls roll in a cage, carrying engine torque while keeping alignment. Many versions use shields to keep grease in and debris out.
What happens if itβs broken β
Expect humming or whine with road speed, vibration in 4WD, metallic glitter in transfer oil, and possible leaks. Continued driving can stretch the chain, score gears, overheat the case, or seize the shaft, causing loss of drive and a tow.
Tech notes
Replace at first sign of play or roughness. Press by the outer race only and seat against the snap ring. Renew the seal and oil; inspect chain and sprocket for wear marks.
