Upper Power Steering Control Valve Bearing
Why this part is needed
This small bearing supports the spool shaft at the top of the hydraulic control valve in many Toyota steering racks. It keeps the shaft centered, lowers friction, and holds tight alignment. That gives smooth assist at parking speed and a stable wheel on the highway. Without a healthy bearing, steering effort rises, the pump works harder, and fluid can overheat.
How it works
The bearing sits in the valve housing and carries radial load from the spool shaft. Precision steel balls or needles roll between hardened races. The part keeps the shaft true so the torsion bar twist moves the valve lands cleanly, metering fluid to the assist chambers. Correct micro-clearance means quick response, low drag, and quiet operation. It runs in power steering fluid and resists corrosion and wear.
What happens if itβs broken
When worn or cracked, you may feel notchiness, vibration, or a growl at the wheel. On-center play, delayed assist, or wandering can appear. Leaks may start at the valve cap. Metal debris can score the spool and damage the pump, causing foamy fluid and a burnt smell. Ignored, the rack can bind or over-assist suddenly, which is a safety risk.
Fitment and build
Made for Toyota hydraulic racks. OEM-grade steel, correct preload, tight tolerances, and protective finish. Works with standard PSF/ATF fluids.
Replacement tips
Mark the valve body before removal. Use a press, not a hammer. Lightly grease during install. Torque the cap, bleed the system, and check alignment. Best replaced along with top seals for long life.
