Rear Main Seal for Toyota Engines π οΈ
This OEMβgrade rear crankshaft oil seal keeps engine oil inside where it belongs. It sits at the back of the engine, around the crankshaft, sealing the joint between block and transmission bellhousing. Perfect fit, quiet running, and long life for daily use or fleet duty.
Why this part is needed β
The rear main seal stops oil from escaping under crankshaft rotation. Without a tight seal, oil drops to the flywheel/torque converter area, lowering oil level and creating mess and odors. A fresh, correctβspec seal protects the engine and clutch/driveplate from contamination.
How it works π§°
A precision elastomer lip, often with a garter spring or PTFE lip, hugs the crank journal. Engine rotation spreads oil as a micro film; the lip and sealing ridge pump oil back inward. A rigid outer shell presses into the rear cover for a stable, leakβfree press fit.
What happens if itβs broken β οΈ
Signs include oil drip between engine and gearbox, burning smell on exhaust, oily dust around the bellhousing, and stained undertray. Continued driving risks low oil pressure, bearing wear, misfiring due to fouled sensors, and clutch slip on manual cars.
