Rear Main Crankshaft Oil Seal for Toyota Engines ️

Why this part is needed

This seal sits at the back of the engine around the crankshaft, where the motor joins the transmission. Its job is to keep engine oil inside and the bellhousing dry. A healthy seal protects oil pressure, keeps the flywheel/torque converter clean, and prevents mess and smell under the car.

How it works

A heat‑resistant rubber lip, supported by a garter spring, hugs the crank. Fine spiral ribs guide oil back into the engine while the metal shell anchors in the block. With correct crankcase ventilation, the lip rides a thin oil film, minimizing wear and friction.

What happens if it’s broken

Leaking here leaves oil at the engine–gearbox joint, drips on the driveway, and can soak a clutch or splash sensors. You may smell burning oil, see smoke on exhaust, or notice slipping under load. Ignoring it risks low oil level, bearing damage, and expensive repairs. Replace at the first signs of seepage.

Clean the bore, install the outer shell dry, lightly oil the lip. Press square to depth. Inspect the crank surface; polish light grooves. Always check PCV function to avoid pressure that pushes the seal out.
