Rear Crankshaft Oil Seal for Toyota Engines οΈ
This rear main seal keeps engine oil inside where the crankshaft exits the block toward the gearbox. It prevents leaks around the flywheel or torque converter, protecting the clutch/AT and keeping oil pressure stable.
Why you need it β
A tight crankshaft oil seal stops drips, keeps the bellhousing dry, and guards bearings from oil starvation. Itβs essential after high mileage, during clutch or transmission service, or when any leak appears at the engineβgearbox joint.
How it works
A heatβresistant elastomer/PTFE lip and garter spring ride on the crank hub. The lip maintains a micro oil film, sealing at idle and high rpm. The shell press-fits into the rear cover; correct depth and square seating are critical.
When it fails β οΈ
Oil dripping from the bellhousing, clutch slip or AT flare, burnt oil smell, messy underbody, and low oil level. Ignored, it can ruin the clutch, contaminate the torque converter, and accelerate bearing wear.
Pro install tips
Clean bore, dry outer shell, lightly oil the lip, and use a proper driverβnever hammer. Set flush to spec, inspect the crank for grooves (use a repair sleeve if needed), and verify PCV function to avoid pressure pushing the seal out.
