Rear Main Crankshaft Oil Seal for Toyota Engines π§
This precision rear crank seal keeps engine oil where it belongsβinside the block. It protects the flywheel/torque converter area, maintains oil pressure, and prevents clutch or flexplate contamination. Built for long life and tight fit, itβs the goβto fix for leaks at the back of the engine.
Why itβs needed β
The crank exits the engine at the rear. Without a proper seal, oil escapes, causing mess, low oil level, and damage. This seal ensures clean operation and stable lubrication.
How it works βοΈ
A heatβresistant elastomer lip, tensioned by a garter spring, hugs the crank surface. Micro grooves return oil inward while a dust lip blocks debris. The seal is pressed squarely into the rear cover or block.
If it fails π¨
Expect oil drips at bellhousing, burning smell, slipping clutch (manual), fouled starter, and rising oil consumption. Prolonged leakage risks bearing wear and flywheel damage.
Tech notes π οΈ
Inspect crank surface; polish if grooved. Lightly oil the lip, never install dry. Use a proper driver, press evenly to spec. Check PCV/ventilation to avoid crankcase overpressure that kills new seals.
