Rear Main Crank Seal for Toyota engines
Keep engine oil where it belongs with this OE-grade rear crankshaft oil seal οΈ. Mounted at the gearbox side of the engine, it blocks oil from escaping past the crank while the shaft spins at high speed. A fresh seal prevents leaks, protects the clutch/torque converter, and keeps the underside clean.
Why this part is needed
Normal wear, heat, and crankcase pressure harden the lip over time. Replacing it restores tight sealing, stabilizes oil level, and avoids costly repairs caused by oil contamination.
How it works
A spring-loaded elastomer lip rides on the crank hub. Micro oil film and a precision edge create a hydrodynamic barrier. The outer shell locks in the housing; the dust lip keeps dirt out. Correct installation depth and light oil on the lip ensure long life.
When it fails
Signs include oil drip from the bell housing, burnt oil smell on exhaust, clutch slip, messy flywheel/flexplate, and low oil level β οΈ. Ignoring it risks bearing wear and noisy drivetrain.
Tech notes
Inspect crank sealing surface; polish if grooved. Align square, do not overdrive. Replace during clutch, flywheel, or rear cover service for labor savings.
