This smart safety unit manages the passenger airbag logic in your Toyota. It reads the seat’s weight sensors and belt status, decides if a child, adult, or empty seat is present, and then allows or suppresses airbag deployment. You need it to keep the SRS system compliant, to safeguard adults, and to protect kids and infant seats . If you’ve replaced the seat, upholstery, or sensors, a fresh and properly calibrated module ensures accurate readings and warning lights stay off.
How it works
The module processes strain‑gauge/pressure mat signals from the seat, filters movement, checks seat belt input, and communicates with the SRS ECU via CAN. It stores fault codes and requires zero‑point calibration (seat weight initialization) after installation or seat service. Correct grounding and stable power are essential for clean sensor data.
What happens if it’s broken ⚠️
Airbag light on, “PASS AIRBAG OFF” stuck, false child/adult classification, seatbelt reminder errors, and failed inspection. In a crash, the passenger bag may not deploy—or deploy when it shouldn’t. Always diagnose, repair wiring if needed, and recalibrate.
Service notes
Disconnect battery (wait 90+ sec), handle ESD‑safe, don’t pinch sensor mats, torque seat bolts, then run calibration with a scan tool on level ground.
