Front Right Speed Sensor
The Front Right Speed Sensor is an integral component in a vehicleโs braking system and is vital for ensuring the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) functions correctly. By measuring the rotation speed of the wheel, this sensor informs the ABS when to adjust braking pressure, preventing wheel lock-up and maintaining traction control, especially on slippery surfaces.
Why Is This Part Needed
ABS systems help prevent skidding and maintain steering ability. The speed sensor plays a crucial role by constantly transmitting wheel speed data to the ABS control unit. Consequently, braking distances are reduced, and vehicle stability is enhanced in emergency braking situations.
How It Works
The speed sensor operates by detecting the magnetic field changes as a toothed ring, known as a tone ring, passes by. This interaction creates an AC signal, which is relayed to the ABS controller. The controller processes these signals to monitor each wheel's speed, adjusting braking force accordingly to prevent wheel lockup.
Consequences of a Broken Sensor
If the speed sensor malfunctions or breaks, the ABS warning light will illuminate, and the system might deactivate. In such a scenario, while standard braking will continue to function, the vehicle might be prone to skidding during hard braking, especially on wet or icy roads. Additionally, other systems such as traction control may be affected, leading to reduced overall safety.
