Why this part is needed
The AFR sensor tells your ECU exactly how rich or lean the engine runs. With accurate feedback, the ECU fine‑tunes fuel injection and ignition for smooth power, clean emissions, and lower fuel use ⛽. Replacing a tired upstream lambda sensor restores cold‑start stability, throttle response, and helps protect the catalytic converter from damage.
How it works
This wideband sensor uses a zirconia pump cell and a reference channel to measure oxygen content in exhaust. A built‑in heater quickly brings it to operating temperature, then the ECU reads the signal hundreds of times per second to hold the ideal 14.7:1 mix. The stainless housing and sealed connector keep moisture and heat out for long life .
What happens if it’s broken
Expect rough idle, flat spots, higher fuel consumption, and a glowing Check Engine light (often rich/lean codes). Prolonged failure can overheat and poison the catalyst, leading to costly repairs ⚠️. Fit a direct‑plug replacement, clear codes, and perform a short drive cycle for best results.
