Air‑Fuel Ratio Sensor (Wideband O2) for Toyota Efficiency 🚗

Why you need it

This AFR sensor keeps the mixture at ideal lambda so your engine runs clean, strong, and economical ⛽. It allows the ECU to fine‑tune fuel delivery, stabilizes idle, sharpens throttle response, protects the catalytic converter, and helps pass emissions tests 🌿.

How it works

A wideband zirconia cell sits in the exhaust stream and compares oxygen content inside the sensor to outside air. Using a controlled pump current and a built‑in heater for fast light‑off, it reports precise mixture data to the ECU. The ECU then trims fuel in closed loop across idle, cruise, and load, keeping combustion efficient in hot, cold, and transient conditions.

What happens if it’s broken

Expect Check Engine light, rough idle, sluggish acceleration, hard starts, high fuel use, and rich/lean smells. Emissions may fail, the catalyst can overheat or clog, and long‑term damage to the converter may occur if the faulty reading is ignored ⚠️.

Tech tips 🔧

Install on a cool exhaust. Don’t touch the sensing tip. Fix exhaust leaks and wiring first. Use sensor‑safe anti‑seize on threads, torque to spec, clear codes, and perform fuel trim relearn.
