Wideband Air‑Fuel Ratio Sensor (Upstream O2)
This precision A/F sensor keeps your engine breathing right by holding the mixture near 14.7:1. With a clean, fast signal, the ECU trims fuel in real time, giving smooth idle, crisp throttle, lower emissions, and better MPG. It’s built with a high‑speed heater for quick light‑off and stable readings even in tough conditions.
Why this part is needed ✅
The engine computer depends on this sensor to correct fuel delivery during idle, cruise, and warm‑up. It protects the catalytic converter, reduces fuel waste, and keeps the car compliant with emission tests.
How it works ⚙️
Inside is a zirconia Nernst cell with a pump cell. The heater takes it to operating temp fast. By comparing exhaust oxygen to reference air, the sensor generates a current/voltage proportional to lambda. The ECU reads this signal and adjusts injector pulse instantly.
What happens if it fails
Expect hard starts, rough idle, hesitation, low power, high fuel use, sulfur smell, and black tailpipe. Check Engine Light may show codes like P0133/P2195. Prolonged failure can damage the catalytic converter and fail inspection.
Tech tips for install ️
- Mounts upstream, before the catalytic converter.
- Do not touch the sensing tip; route the harness away from heat.
- Use anti‑seize on threads; torque ~35–45 Nm (as per service manual).
- Fix exhaust leaks and check MAF/vacuum lines, then clear trims.
Compatibility
- Picnic/Avensis Verso
- Rav4
