Why you need it

How it works
Mounted upstream of the catalyst, the wideband element uses a pump cell and heater to measure oxygen in the exhaust. It outputs a current the ECU reads in milliseconds, then trims injector pulse to keep the mixture spot on under idle, cruise, and load ⚙️.
What happens if it’s broken
Expect hard starts, rough idle, hesitation, higher fuel use, sulfur smell, and black soot. The Check Engine light may appear with mixture codes (e.g., P2195/P2197). Running rich can overheat and damage the catalytic converter .
