This sensor is needed to keep the engine running at the correct air-to-fuel mix. It sits in the exhaust stream before the catalytic converter and reads oxygen content in real time. The ECU uses this signal to fine-tune fuel injection, helping improve fuel economy, throttle response, and emissions control.

How It Works βš™οΈ

Inside is a heated sensing element that reaches operating temperature fast. As exhaust gases pass the tip, the sensor generates a precise feedback signal. The computer constantly adjusts injector pulse width to maintain an efficient mixture during idle, cruising, and acceleration.

What Happens If It Fails ❗

A weak or dead sensor can cause rich/lean running, rough idle, hesitation, fuel smell, higher fuel consumption, and failed emissions tests. Over time it may damage the catalytic converter, foul spark plugs, and trigger the check engine light with mixture-related fault codes.
