Why this part is needed
This downstream oxygen sensor sits after the catalytic converter and tells the ECU how well the cat is cleaning the exhaust. With a healthy signal, the engine maintains clean emissions, smooth drivability, and proper fuel trims. It keeps the check engine light off, protects the catalyst, and helps pass inspections .
How it works
Inside is a zirconia element that compares oxygen in exhaust to outside air. The sensor outputs a voltage the ECU monitors; downstream readings should be steady when the catalyst is effective. An internal heater brings it up to temperature fast for accurate data. Correct feedback lets the ECU verify catalyst efficiency and refine mixture control ⛽.
What happens if it’s broken
