    Why you need it

    Oil that’s too cold is thick and slow; too hot loses film strength. The ECU uses this signal to adjust fueling, ignition, VVT timing, idle, fan logic, and protection limits. Result: stable power, cleaner running, and longer engine life. 🚗

    How it works

    Inside the sealed metal probe is an NTC thermistor. As oil warms, resistance drops; the ECU converts that change into temperature. A threaded body and sealing washer/O‑ring lock it in the gallery or pan, and a weatherproof connector carries the signal. Simple, fast, and reliable. ❄️🔥

    What happens if it fails

    Wrong readings trigger poor cold behavior, lazy response, rich or lean fueling, delayed VVT, and higher wear. You may see a warning light, limp mode, unstable idle, or overheating oil on hard runs. In severe cases: varnish, turbo coking, and bearing damage.
