    Inlet Air Temperature Sensor for Toyota Engines 🌡️

    This temperature sensing unit is a key input for the engine computer. It measures how hot or cold the air is as it enters the intake system, helping the ECU choose the right fuel delivery and ignition timing. Cooler air is denser and needs more fuel, while warmer air needs less—this is why the sensor is needed for clean running and steady power.

    How It Works ⚙️

    Inside is a thermistor that changes resistance with air temperature. The ECU reads the voltage change and adjusts air-fuel mixture, idle control, and sometimes automatic transmission behavior. It also supports smoother cold starts and better emissions control.

    When It Fails 🚨

    A faulty unit can cause hard starting, rough idle, hesitation, poor fuel economy, black smoke, or pinging under load. The check engine light may appear and the ECU may switch to “default” values, making the car feel lazy. Long-term driving with wrong temperature data can overload the catalytic converter and foul spark plugs.
