Steering Angle Sensor – Overview 🛞
Keep stability systems sharp with a precise steering angle sensor. It constantly reads wheel position and turning speed, feeding data to VSC/ESP, ABS, EPS, lane assist, and adaptive headlights. This ensures confident cornering, straight tracking, and smooth intervention on wet or rough roads.
Why this part is needed ✅
The control units must know where you point the wheel to balance brake force, engine torque, and steering assist. Accurate steering data improves traction, reduces tire wear, and keeps safety features ready when you need them most.
How it works ⚙️
Inside is a high‑resolution encoder using Hall elements/optics. A microcontroller converts rotation into calibrated CAN signals and stores a zero point. The sealed housing resists heat, dust, and vibration for long service life.
If it fails ⚠️
Signs include ABS/VSC/PCS lights, uneven or heavy steering, early traction cut-in, crooked wheel after turns, and headlamps aiming wrong. You can drive, but stability and braking assistance are limited, increasing risk on slippery roads.
Installation notes 🛠️
Direct fit on the column. After replacement, center the wheel and perform zero‑point calibration with a scan tool. Inspect the clockspring, keep connectors clean, and torque fasteners to spec.
