Why this part is needed
It's the heart of Toyota’s adaptive suspension (TEMS/AVS). It adjusts oil flow inside the shock absorber, reducing body roll, pitch under braking, and vibration. You get better grip, shorter stopping distance, and less tire wear.
How it works
The unit receives commands from the suspension ECU via harness signals. Inside is a stepper motor and gear set that rotates a valve pin on the damper. By opening or closing internal ports, it changes damping force from soft to firm in milliseconds ️.
If the actuator fails
Common signs: harsh or bouncy ride, clunk/click on startup, warning light, and stored DTCs. The system often goes to fail‑safe (usually firm), causing discomfort, reduced traction on rough roads, and longer braking on uneven surfaces. Prolonged driving can stress shocks and bushings.
