Front Pedestrian Protection Impact Sensor ️

This safety sensor sits behind the front bumper and speaks to the restraint control unit. Its job is simple but critical: detect a human impact and command the hood pop-up actuators and related safety logic. If you drive in busy city streets, this component helps reduce injury risk to pedestrians and can also minimize front-end damage. It’s a must-have for the car’s safety package and for keeping warning lights off.

Why you need it ✅

Without a healthy sensor, the pedestrian safety system cannot work. You may fail inspection, lose key safety features, and see persistent dash warnings. The ECU needs clean data from this unit to make split-second decisions.

How it works ⚙️

Inside is a fast accelerometer tuned for bumper-level impacts. On a qualifying hit, the module verifies the signal, sends it to the control unit, and triggers the hood lifters and alerts. It constantly self-checks and stores fault data for diagnostics.

If it’s broken or damaged ⚠️

You’ll notice a warning lamp, stored fault codes, and the pedestrian system may disable. In a real event, the hood may not deploy—or in rare cases deploy at the wrong time if the sensor is shorted. Corrosion, water entry, or minor collisions can cause these faults.

Tech notes from the bench

Disconnect the battery before work. Mount on clean metal, correct orientation only. Do not drop the unit. After install, clear codes and run calibration with a scan tool. If the bumper or reinforcement was replaced, verify gap and torque.
