Front SRS Impact Sensor — Crash Detection Guardian
Why this part is needed
This sensor is the first responder of your Supplemental Restraint System. In a frontal impact, it detects rapid deceleration and alerts the airbag control unit so the front airbags deploy at the right moment. A healthy unit means reliable protection, correct warning-lamp behavior, and peace of mind on every trip.
How it works
Inside sits a solid-state MEMS accelerometer that monitors g‑force along the vehicle’s front axis. A dedicated circuit filters vibrations, runs self-tests at key‑on, and communicates with the SRS ECU through a shielded two-wire harness. Proper mounting angle and torque are critical, as the bracket acts as the reference for impact measurement.
What happens if it’s broken
Expect the airbag light to stay on, stored fault codes, and disabled deployment logic. In a real crash, airbags may deploy late or not at all. Corrosion, connector damage, or prior front-end hits can also cause false triggers or intermittent warnings—both are safety risks.
Service notes ⚙️
Disconnect the battery and wait a few minutes before work. Keep the sensor oriented as marked, avoid drops, and tighten to spec. After replacement, clear SRS codes and run a health check with a proper scan tool.
