It is needed to read sensor signals and command the A/C compressor clutch, blower speed steps, and air-mix/mode actuators so the cabin reaches the temperature you select. The unit receives inputs from the temperature knob/panel, evaporator temp sensor, cabin/ambient signals (by model), and sometimes pressure/safety switches. It then sends clean control outputs to the compressor request circuit and actuator motors, balancing cooling and preventing evaporator freeze-up.
