A/C Evaporator Temperature Sensor ❄️

This small sensor is vital for stable cabin cooling. It monitors the evaporator core temperature so the climate ECU can regulate compressor operation, prevent icing, and keep vent air comfortable and dry. Without it, the HVAC system can’t precisely balance performance and efficiency.

Why you need it ️

It stops the evaporator from freezing, reduces fogging on the glass, protects the compressor, and helps maintain consistent cabin temperature. It also optimizes fuel/electric power use by preventing unnecessary compressor cycling.

How it works

An NTC thermistor changes electrical resistance as temperature changes. The HVAC controller reads this signal and adjusts compressor clutch/inverter speed, blower rate, and expansion valve opening to keep the coil just above freezing for peak cooling.

What happens if it fails ⚠️

Common symptoms: weak or intermittent A/C, evaporator icing with low airflow, rapid compressor short-cycling, warm air at stops, or stored HVAC fault codes. Open/short circuits, cracked housing, or corroded connector require replacement.

Pro install tips

Mounted on/near the evaporator case; clip fully into the fin socket, route the lead away from the drain, and verify connector seal. Clear HVAC codes and test drive with A/C on recirculation.
