A/C Compressor Magnetic Clutch Assembly for Toyota
This magnetic clutch assembly is the “on/off switch” between the engine belt and the A/C compressor. It is needed to engage cooling only when the cabin requests it, saving fuel and reducing compressor wear. ❄️
How It Works
When the A/C button is pressed, power flows to the clutch coil. The coil creates a strong magnetic field that pulls the clutch plate against the pulley face. The pulley is always spinning with the belt, but the compressor only turns when the plate locks in. When power is cut, the plate releases and the compressor stops.
If the Clutch Fails
A worn or burned clutch can cause no cold air, intermittent cooling, squealing, clutch chatter, or a smoky smell. If it slips, heat builds up and can damage the pulley bearing, belt, and even the compressor front seal.
