Blind Spot Monitoring Control Module 8638A289 ️
This BSM controller is the brain of the blind spot system on select Mitsubishi SUVs. It keeps an extra electronic eye on adjacent lanes, warns you of fast-approaching vehicles, and supports rear cross-traffic alerts when reversing. If your blind spot warning is inconsistent or inoperative, this unit is the usual fix.
Why you need it ✅
Safe lane changes depend on timely alerts. A healthy control unit processes radar data and lights the mirror icons at the right moment. Replacing a water-damaged, impact-shocked, or corroded module restores factory safety performance and avoids false alarms.
How it works ⚙️
The ECU reads the rear side radar sensors, tracks objects, calculates relative speed and angle, then sends commands via CAN to mirror lamps and the buzzer. It also manages rear cross-traffic alerts in reverse. Logic filters reduce glare from guardrails and parked cars.
What happens if it fails
You may see a BSM warning, icons stuck on/off, random beeps, or no alerts at all. Cross-traffic alert may stop, and diagnostic trouble codes can log. System self-check may disable the feature until the controller is replaced and calibrated.
Install notes
Direct-fit plug-and-play, but coding or calibration may be required. Verify connectors for moisture, update software if applicable, and ensure radar alignment and bumper brackets are intact. Do not cover radar areas with metallic film.
