SRS Airbag Diagnostic Control Module ?️

This safety control unit is the “brain” of the airbag system. It is needed to constantly monitor crash sensors, seat belt inputs, and the warning lamp circuit, so the vehicle can react correctly in an impact. Without a healthy module, the SRS system cannot guarantee correct deployment timing—milliseconds matter.

How it works ⚙️

The module reads signals from impact sensors and internal accelerometers, checks them against stored crash algorithms, then triggers airbags and belt pretensioners when thresholds are met. It also performs self-checks at key-on, stores fault codes, and communicates with the vehicle network for diagnostics.

What happens if it fails ❌

A faulty unit may turn on the airbag warning light, log permanent DTCs, disable airbags/pretensioners, or in rare cases cause incorrect deployment decisions. After a collision it can lock data and refuse to reset, leaving the system inactive until repaired or replaced.

Key signs of trouble ?

  • Airbag light stays on after startup
  • No communication with SRS during scan
  • Stored crash data / “module locked” codes
