Automatic Headlight Ambient Sensor for Safer Night Drives ??

This factory-spec ambient light unit lets your vehicle manage lights the smart way. It turns headlamps on at dusk, in tunnels, and during storms, and dims the cluster at night. Built to OE standards, it restores correct auto light behavior, comfort, and road safety while helping avoid battery drain from lights left on.

Why this part is needed

Auto light control reduces distraction, keeps visibility consistent, and meets lighting laws without you touching a switch. It also preserves bulb life and ensures proper daytime running and tail-lamp activation when needed.

How it works

A sealed photodiode measures outside brightness through the windshield. It sends a voltage signal to the body control system (ETACS/BCM). The module decides when to power low beams, DRL, tail lamps, and adjusts panel illumination. Clear glass is vital; dark tint or dirt can skew readings.

If the sensor is faulty

Common signs: lights do not switch in AUTO, lamps stay on in daylight, dash is too bright at night, warning light or DTCs stored, random flicker, or battery drain. Rain or tunnel transitions may feel unsafe due to late headlamp response.

Install tips ?

Usually located on top of the dash near the windshield. Disconnect battery, unclip old unit, seat the new piece flat with its gasket, plug in harness, clean the glass, then test in AUTO. Some models may require ETACS reset.
