This OEM power distribution box guards the main battery circuits and feeds high-load systems like starter, alternator/DC‑DC, ABS/ASC, EPS, fans, heater, and cabin fuse panel. It is vital for safe power flow and stops wiring damage in case of a short. Without it, one fault could melt harnesses or start a fire. ⚡
How it works ?
Inside are bolted fusible links and main fuses. Heavy copper busbars route current from the battery. When current exceeds the rated value, the link melts cleanly, opening the circuit before heat reaches the loom. The sealed cover keeps moisture and dust out, ensuring stable resistance and long life.
What happens if it fails ❗
Symptoms include no-crank, repeated fuse blows, dim or dead dash, charging light on, random shutdowns, “EV system” warnings on PHEV/EV, burning smell, or melted plastic by the battery. A cracked link can cause intermittent power loss that is hard to trace.
Tech tips ?
Disconnect negative terminal first. Inspect for heat marks and loose studs. Clean lugs, torque to spec, and never upsize fuse ratings. Use OEM spec only to protect inverter/DC‑DC and harness.
